Outback Trip 2002

The following is an account of our two week adventure into the Outback of Australia. When they show the weather on Sydney T.V., the satellite map of the country is colored in shades of green on the edges with a big brown splotch that fills the middle. We were headed for that brown. “We” being myself, Charles, and my childhood friend Amanda who has taken the next couple of months off before she starts vet school in August.

Day One: Young Sheepsheering Tour and Forbes

Day Two: Parks and Dubbo

Day Three: Zoo and Coonabarabran

Day Four: Warrumbungles and Lightning Ridge

Day Five: Bourke

Day Six: Tibooburra

Day Seven: Cameron’s Corner

Day Eight: Middle of Nowhere

Day Nine: Flinders Ranges and Hawker

Days Ten and Eleven: Broken Hill, Silverton and Hay

Day Twelve: Sheepsheers Hall of Fame and Back to Young

But before we begin, I would like to take this moment to dedicate this portion of the site to Dr. and Dr. Young (Dick and June) for generously lending us their 4wd truck and camper trailer. Without them, we would not have this opportunity to see the country, Charles would not be born and the world would be an empty desolate place. Much like the Outback, only without the stark beauty. Or the kangaroos. And I’m pretty sure there would be fewer pubs.
