Charles took me on a surprise trip this weekend to the lake district about two hours North of Sydney.
It was a beautiful area with a river on one side a stretch of tropical beach on the other. On Sunday we kayaked in the morning and hiked up a hill in the afternoon -to make up for all the food we ate, mostly. Vegetarian options in small towns tend to be variations of cheese melted and carbs.
Saturday night was Earth Hour.
Over 2,000 companies and 70,000 individuals signed up to turn off their lights for 60 minutes at 7:30pm. It kick started the effort to reduce Sydney’s carbon emissions by 5 per cent this year. I heard it was amazing to be in Sydney since they darkened the bridge, the Opera House and most of the buildings downtown. We didn’t expect much from a small country town but we did find a restaurant who was participating.
Saving the world by candlelight -who says being hippy isn’t romantic? (Otherwise, we could have wasted gallons of water in our 70s hotel room with the cheesy heart-shaped spa. That’s right, heart-shaped.)
