Stress

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Hmm. Ok, so I’m realizing that I definitely have a constant low level of stress going on. It’s been easy to dismiss but there are signs. Like the fact I’m tired a lot. And I keep leaving my phone in odd places. I find myself watching TV. And it took me ages to write a little article which turned out crappy anyway -can’t seem to muster the necessary enthusiasm to make it good. Yet. I’ll give it another go.

Brotherhood 2

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Well, I had the day I thought I’d have. Mostly.

Dad and I delivered fruit to all the stores but then we spontaneously decided to go to a movie: Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. The science in it was mind blowing. I haven’t been this committed to changing my environmental ways since I was in college. First with this little note on the blog (if you can, go see the movie), and then by digging out a travel mug to slip in my purse so I don’t waste so many paper cups. I’m also looking at ways to drive less and plan to read a bit more on the ol’ interweb. Happy to talk about this with anyone who wants to chat.

So I suppose that’s the brotherhood part.

Or maybe the card was simply about hanging out with my parents today. They’re both amazing people (in very different ways) and I’m feeling lucky to have won that particular birth lottery.

Double bonus that we all were born in the western world where we can escape the withering heat of the afternoon by popping into a little film about global warming.

Brotherhood

That’s my angel card today. Not sure how it’s supposed to apply since I’m spending the morning with Dad delivering fruit and the afternoon with Mom in the hospital. Both really enjoyable. Really. It’s great to have this kind of time with my folks. And the whole hospital thing hasn’t been all bad -Mom is getting better after her back surgery and regaining movement (whew!). But it’s been tiring for some reason. I go to bed exhausted and I have a hard time remembering things if I don’t write them down (and my to do list seems to stay the same each day… not enough crossing off). I also don’t want to write too much carpevia since much of my day is kinda dull and maybe a bit sad. Why pass that on? And it takes a bit of time to transition to writing brain.
Oops -my battery is about to run out! Only 3% left. I spent some of it on email and a bit on reading other blogs… What would you do with your last bit of battery?
Download a song? Dilbert? Dear Abby?

Batchlorette Party

IMG_3451.JPG This picture was taken by a nice (albeit slightly drunk) guy at Amanda’s last night of freedom at Edgefield.

An hour later, we were in another pub on the grounds when she realized that the blue bag and bottle of wine that was given to her as a gift (seen in this picture in front of her) was missing.

She looked everywhere for it but had no luck.

Then, as Stephanie (third from the left) was standing near the door, the picture taker guy walked by her holding the bag.

“That’s ours,” she told him.

“No, it’s mine,” he said.

And this is where I have so much respect for her. She then told him, “Oh, thank you! We’ve been looking all over for this!… Let me buy you a beer to thank you.”

It totally worked.

Later that night three of his friends made their way over to our table at different times to appologize for him. He couldn’t be all bad if he has such good friends.

Amanda & Leigh’s Weddin’

Monday, August 21st, 2006

IMG_3490.JPGLast week was a whirlwind of wedding planning for my very dear friends Amanda & Leigh. They met three years ago at our wedding and returned to the scene of the crime to tie the knot.

IMG_3506.JPGSomehow they managed to walk the line between a tasteful and classic theme and, well, white trash. Is there such a thing as high-end white trash? We were gathered in a scenic orchard and served organic meats, gourmet salads and great wines… and yet there was the overalls and the Twinkie pyramid.

Amanda was beautiful, of course. The ceremony was teary and we danced into the dark of night.
