Lots of people have asked how we got engaged, and since I happened to take pictures…
We had been talking a bit about getting married for awhile now. And somehow along the way we started joking that who ever proposed got to keep their last name…
(An unsuspecting Charles)
It was a beautiful spring day and we were having our usual weekend morning coffee at the park (just across the street from our flat).
Charles had bought the paper and we were periodically reading and napping.
I had no idea how to do it. Should I slip the ring in his coffee cup? Have some kind of prepared speech? Wait and hire a sky writer? As I was busy worrying, he suddenly put down his paper and said, “right, are you ready to go?”
“No. Not yet.”
“Ok.”
“First I want to ask you marry me.”
“Ok,” he sat down in front of me.
“Will you marry me?”
“You’re serious aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
Then he said yes and I gave him the ring.
Not the makings of a movie, I’m sure.
But Charles Reed and I are pretty happy about it.
