The Great Thomas the Tanked Engine Blue Mountains Pub Crawl

This is Tim (here with his lovely wife Lee Fay):

Tim is a cheeky scientist, radio dj who loves his football and beer almost as much as he loves Lee Fay.

One Saturday over the break, Tim asked all of his friends to join him at Central Station on the 10:55a train to the Blue Mountains. We were going on an adventure!

All the gang was there. Frank & Adrienne…

Nicki & Alister…

And of course Cheerful Charlie.

The first stop was Emu Plains where we picked up Patient Pat. Pat is a new father with a sharp wit but has a great big heart and will always rush to help the others carry beers to the table.

We only had an hour at the first pub so most people ordered tiny drinks for fear of keeping up the pace. Except for Al who is an enthusiastic hard worker and also Scottish. Frank didn’t want Al to be lonely so he too had two beers at the cheery, but empty Irish pub.

Then we were off to the next stop where we searched out food for Nicki’s new friend the Tape Worm who she met on her travels in India. We all decided that it wasn’t right for Mr. Tape Worm not to have a first name, so we all agreed that he should be named after her ex-boyfriend, Simon.

After a delicious lunch, soon we were bustling about again hopping from Springwood to Wentworth Falls and on to Katoomba. There were tales of Malaysian Uncles, readings of trash magazines, descriptions of gout, and debates about the use of Quantum physics as a spiritual metaphor (ok so that one was fairly early on).

But all-in-all it was a fairly civilized pub crawl and soon they noticed that the sky was growing dark. So Tim and Lee Fay and all their friends boarded the final train of the day.

This time going in the other direction back home.

Gus and Lou

Monday, November 20th, 2006

A special little hello to two people I write with on Monday evenings every month or so.

Gus is a poet and his words pour out like dark water.

Lou is a professional writer and water likes to appear in her words.

We ring a bell and just start writing and I’m always amazed at what comes out.

Makes me realize how one dimensional this here blog is.

Maybe it’s time to shake things up a bit.

I love my writing group

I know I’ve said it before, but I’m always just amazed by them. Today they gave me an orchid because of Mom.

I’ve never had an orchid before. It’s so delicate and graceful.

There are actually 4 in this picture…

My friend Karen just announced the impending arrival of a third Williamson child. I was lucky enough to see her this summer after many years. And even though there were now two small children with very big eyes running around doing cute things with dinosaurs and shower tiles, it was nice to feel like no time had passed.

Congratulation Karen. Oh, yes and Craig. I suppose he had something to do with it.

Saturday free day

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Last weekend we got to spend time with our friend Amber who had a whole day to herself -due to kids, the first one in 4 years. Yikes. So we took her to Lemon, of course.

Where we saw one of our other favourite people, Richard. He designed the logo for my other blog and he himself has a new blog too. Very exciting.

He gave us chalk and invited us to draw a picture on the sidewalk out front. So I did:

Then we all went for a stroll around town. Amber headed to the Japanese crafts section of a bookstore where she browsed for inspiration for her kid’s craft newsletter.

Then we walked and browsed some more until we got really tired and plopped down in a restaraunt to have fake meat and hot tea.
